dence on your part, by my
appearant [sic] neglect; but
my long letter of February [14th] last,
which, I hope, you have
received, ere this, will,
I trust, satisfactorily explain
the appearant omission.
You will learn from it,
that John [C. Calhoun Jr.,] lingered ap
pearantly at the point
of death till the last of
July, when we determined
to try the effect of traveling
and a Southern climate;
that after a very tedious journey
we brought him here, when
his health began to improve.
